Founded by Stan and Sandy Checketts in 1994, S&S Worldwide, Inc. began manufacturing and distributing the Space Shot vertical amusement ride. The Space Shot uses compressed air to launch passengers rapidly up a 185' or 300' tower, and then gently bounces them back to the starting position. In September 1995, S&S Worldwide, Inc. began manufacturing thrill rides for children, the Frog Hopper and Rodeo Rider, and a vertical high-thrill drop ride, the Turbo Drop. The company subsequently introduced the Double Shot, a smaller, 85' high tower ride that provides the heightened experience of two cycles of upward and downward launches.
Another new ride sensation was introduced by S&S Worldwide, Inc. in November 1999, with the Logan, Utah debut of the world's first air-launched coaster, the Thrust Air Coaster. This coaster really pushes the thrill ride envelope, using a compressed air launch system that accelerates from 0 to over 100 miles per hour in under two seconds. An S&S Worldwide, Inc. air-launched coaster, called "Dodompa" at Fujikyu Highlands, Japan, was listed in January, 2002, by the Guinness Book of Records as the "World's Fastest Roller Coaster", with a speed of 107 mph.
Always innovating, S&S Worldwide, Inc. has introduced even more new ride concepts to the industry, including the extreme high-thrill "Sky Sling," and the exciting new family rides, "Sky Swatter," "Screaming Squirrel," and "Screamin' Swing," as well as family roller coasters. In 2002, S&S Worldwide, Inc. significantly increased its product line with the acquisition of the well-known amusement ride manufacturing company, Arrow Dynamics. The exciting "Powder Keg" air-launched coaster designed by S&S Worldwide, Inc. opened at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, in 2005, and the incredible "X" coaster opened in Japan in July, 2006.
S&S Worldwide, Inc. rides have been ridden and loved by millions of people, acclaimed by no less than Forbes Magazine as "the greatest adrenaline rush on the planet," featured by numerous television stations and publications from Reader's Digest to The Rolling Stone, and honored by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions for the "Major New Ride of the Year" in 2001 and 2002. Perhaps the only thing as exciting as the experience of an S&S Worldwide, Inc. ride is the anticipation of what new thrill will be unveiled next by the creative talent at S&S Worldwide, Inc.
